five minutes, one sentence.

Good lord, why is it so difficult to just get on this site and WRITE??????

It should not be this difficult. If I can block five minutes at the end of the day, I can write something. Journaling is supposed to be fucking THERAPEUTIC so why is it so hard?

I always feel like I need to post some kind of big dramatic essay or some shit like that. But I don’t. I really and truly don’t! I could literally write ONE DAMN sentence about my day and be done.

Okay. Today is the first day of autumn. My favorite season…well, when the weather finally changes to autumnal temps here in Louisiana, anyway. Let’s start this autumn with a promise to write something on this site every day. I’m going to set a reminder on my phone/calendar/etc. to pop up every night at 8PM, to write here for five minutes. FIVE MEASLY MINUTES. I can spare five minutes a day. If I go longer, great, but I’m going to devote five minutes a day to putting something on this site.

  • Hey Karen!

I can totally relate to that. It’s not easy to blog consistently — I’ve been there before. I experience “waves” of blogging motivation. It comes, it goes, and then it comes back… and it goes again…

However, I’ve found that each time I give myself a moment to write something and publish it, it feels good — I feel good! As you said, I also find it therapeutic. No matter if it’s just a few lines of text, a big post, or something that might not interest many people… it’s just great to write and hit that publish button. The simple act of putting thoughts into words and sharing them can be incredibly satisfying.

What works well for me is to note every idea that pops into my head on my phone or computer (they’re synced anyway). An idea can come up in various situations: while reading a post on one of the many blogs I’m subscribed to, while cooking, working, hearing something on the radio, showering, falling asleep, and so on. An idea can be just a single word or a few paragraphs I want to write down before I forget. Sometimes, I even use Siri to record a note when I’m not able to write.

Regularly, I go back through my notes and browse my many ideas. When I feel inspired by one, I give myself a generous chunk of time to work on it and develop it. Sometimes, writing a post can take me many hours, so it may spread across several days. Anyway, I’m not sure why I’m explaining all of this haha. Keep it up! Don’t put too much pressure on yourself — if you miss a “five minutes a day” session, it’s no big deal after all!

Looking forward to reading your posts!
